Lives: The Biography Resource links to thousands of biographies and primary sources for biographical facts, such as memoirs and diaries. The guide includes records for groups of people identified by profession, historical era or geography. Links to general and special collections and resources on biographical criticism are identified. Beyond these categories, links to other biographical resources and dictionaries are available. (Links are not included for short dictionary entries.) Only biographies of people who are no longer living are included, but information online does state that in some exceptional instances links are provided for living people whose careers are well past. Until recently, new listings were accompanied by brief descriptions of their contents, but these are no longer included in order to insure timely release of the data. Sites are checked for quality before their addition to the index. All biographies are in English.
Users may search by simply entering a name or clicking on a thesaurus entry. Individual biographies are entered under popular names or pseudonyms. The easy to read and well‐organized screens are free of advertising clutter. Photos and pictures of biographees enrich the text. It should be pointed out that this guide to biographies on the Internet cannot control the quality on the sites indexed. Also, sites may change after the initial review.
This is an excellent site to visit when seeking biographical information.
