Publisher Boulevard has recently released a valuable addition to its series on literature in English translation which includes guides to translations into English from Italian, Portuguese, German and Latin American fiction. The series aims to promote “Euroculture in literature” and to “tear British readers from their desperate fascination with vitiated and overhyped Americana)”. Whether or not you agree with such sentiments, there can be little doubt that the Babel guides offer a practical and inexpensive solution. The French volume has justifiably been supported by the Arts Council of England and the French Foreign Affairs Ministry.
