Scottish Wild Plants: Their History, Ecology and Conservation

There are nearly 1,600 species of vascular plants growing wild in Scotland. As one might expect, Scotland is a stronghold for mountain plants and is also associated in the public’s mind with heather and thistles! Of the 1,600 species about 2 per cent are extinct, 7 per cent are declining, 18 per cent are of restricted distribution and 2 per cent are on Schedule 8 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act. Bearing this in mind, the fact that this attractive little book covers only 45 species means it can hardly be considered as a reference book.
