It is a rare pleasure for a reviewer to know that he has a classic or standard title in his hands immediately on its publication; indeed, in this case I could have assumed that classic status for this title before it was ever published simply from the author’s reputation and previous track record in publishing in this subject field. Aeronautical historians and anybody studying airlines will have come across, and will have relied heavily on in many cases, previous works by R.E.G. Davies[1‐3], themselves all classics.
