Although when originally announced as Think Tanks of the World this looked like a possible reference item, it proves to be a comparative study of why and how think tanks have developed in various countries and combines case studies of individual countries with discussion of comparative themes. But the think tank phenomenon is of considerable importance in government and world affairs yet remains very much a grey area to other than those specifically concerned with the workings of government and policy.
