The title of this work is somewhat misleading, since it is a reprint of the 1961 book published by Wace, a printing company of which the author was a director. An authority on his subject, Dowding produced this as an introduction for students and the text is packed with black and white illustrations taken from books mainly in the former British Museum Library and St Bride’s Foundation.
