I worry rather about the fire engine title as being a little too close to home (literally), as I envisage one little boy marching down the road with this volume to try his luck at our local fire station. Since I also live on the coast perhaps he will be off to our local harbour as well with the other volume in hand. Maybe the space shuttle, aeroplane and digger volumes previously reviewed (RR 98/33 and 98/454) are safer bets after all as less easily accessible. Or perhaps he will just stick with the books: they do the job pretty well with clear colour diagrams of all the parts accompanied by clear captions and texts. These are good additions to a very worthwhile series aimed at 6‐8 year‐olds. Just watch out the next time a fire engine comes to demonstrate at your library or school that it gets away again in one piece.
