This collection of essays examines the relationship between the development of printing and the spread of the reformed faith throughout Europe. It was originally published in French in 1990. While the translation has not been revised some contributors have updated their bibliographies and briefly summarised later research.
The contributors look in detail at the processes of printing, the distribution of printed works, their audience and manner of reading, with some wider historical or social reflections. The skills of historians, literary scholars, bibliographers and theologians are brought together in a survey of Europe from the main areas of Protestant book production...
