The Statutory Register of Osteopaths

The United Kingdom Osteopaths Act of 1993 set in motion the process that will lead, in May 2000, to osteopathy becoming the first complementary medical profession to achieve statutory self‐regulation.

The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), whose membership and committee structure is given in this register, opened the registration process in 1998. This first register includes about a third of the osteopaths in the UK (plus a few overseas) and about 2,000 more are currently registering. The GOsC is now accrediting courses which will ease future registrations, as new osteopaths will have to graduates from an approved course.
