I had not had occasion to consult this standard reference work for many years; indeed, this is the first new edition of this famous title for almost 30 years. Even within an institution as supposedly hidebound as the the British peerage a lot has happened in those intervening years, and the editor reckons that about half the names included in this milestone new edition belong to people born or ennobled during that period, and so appear for the first time.
