Thomas Frognall Dibdin, whose reputation as a bookman and bibliographer at one time extended throughout the book world, principally for his Bibliomania, first published in 1809, The Library Companion; or the Young Man’s Guide and the Old Man’s Comfort in the Choice of a Library (1850), and for his active involvement in the founding of the Roxburghe Club, a dining club for leading bibliophiles, no longer commands the attention of librarians and bibliographers.
