The Dictionary of Psychology

I am slightly surprised by the title of this book: The Dictionary of Psychology. It ought really to be called “One of the Many Dictionaries of Psychology”. It seems that retirement affects academics in various different ways. One very distinguished FRS of my acquaintance had an extremely august retirement party ‐ speeches and presentations in the National Portrait Gallery no less ‐ but reappeared at his desk at 8.45 the following morning and carried on just as before. Another neurochemist has had no contact with any former colleagues at all, but has apparently been observed working as a shepherd....
