This is a revamped edition of an earlier title, Women Who Ruled, although this version has been enlarged by the inclusion of half as many entries again. In addition, many of the original entries have been revised, updated and expanded. The scope of this biographical dictionary is impressive, as it covers all historical periods and all nationalities. It now claims to list “every known ruling queen, empress, prime minister, president, de facto ruler, constitutional monarch and other verifiable female ruler”.
