The State of the Nation’s Birds

For many years Chris Mead has been the bewhiskered public face of the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), the scientific organisation that has measured the fluctuating fortunes of our bird life since 1933. He has now produced a terrific reference book summarising the position of our breeding birds as we enter the new millennium. Essentially this book is the product of hundreds of volunteers organised by the BTO, and their projects, all still on‐going and in need of more volunteers, are set out in a useful summary at the front of the book.
