Here we have 87 articles, each of around 3,500 words, covering all the major topics in geology from alluvial systems to weathering and erosion by way of glaciers, fossils, folds, caves and volcanoes. The articles are laid out in a consistent form. There is a brief definition, an explanation of principal terms, a summary of what is known about the topic, a description of the methods of study and a concluding section which puts the topic in context in the wider picture.
