The Artists of the World: Bio‐bibliographical Index A‐Z, Volume I: A‐Bielitz

The Artists of the World (Allgemeines Kunstlerlexikon, AKL) is a publishing venture to equal MacMillan′s Grove Dictionary of Art. K.G. Saur Publishing intend to cover 500,000 artists, updating and including entries from both Thieme‐Becker and Vollmer, which together contained 195,409 biographies of artists from 92 countries. Now standing at Volume 24 with the letter “D”, less than a quarter of the artists to be covered by AKL have appeared in print. I believe it will be many years before this important dictionary will be complete.
