Dundee features more than most towns or cities in the popular folk songs of Scotland. Although Up wi the bonnets O’ Bonnie Dundee is about Graham of Claverhouse and not the place, there are plenty of songs about the town ‐ The Piper O’ Dundee (included in James Hogg’s Jacobite Relics); the tender emotions of The Road and the Miles to Dundee and the more intimate relationship depicted in The Dundee Weaver are enough to make even the most occasional singer wonder about the city’s capacity to inspire music, poetry and song.
