American Voices of World War I. Primary Source Documents

In the 1970s and 1980s the United States Military History Institute at Carlisle, Pennsylvania, sent out a large number of questionnaires to First World War veterans. Not only were 7,000 returned but the veterans’ families also sent in letters, diaries, books and photographs and it is these latter that form the contents of this present collection of primary sources for the story of the US Army, Marine Corps and Army Air Corps in the 1917‐1918 war.
