Supported by the Pilgrim Trust, the Marc Fitch Fund, and the British Library, and 11 years in the making, this catalogue of the Society’s manuscripts is the first to appear since Henry Ellis’s The Catalogue of Manuscripts in the Library of the Society of Antiquaries was published in 1816. At the time Ellis was Secretary of the British Museum and Under Librarian of Manuscripts. He was to hold both posts until 1828. In that year he began a 28‐year reign as Principal Librarian.
