Sigrid Unset was born in 1882, daughter of a Norwegian archaeologist and a Danish mother. She began to publish in 1907, and continued an active publishing life until her death in 1949. She was the author of 33 books and over 100 articles. During her writing career, she achieved respect among several communities. She won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1928, the only Norwegian woman ever to win the prize, for her historical novels set in the Middle Ages.
