Publications such as these are aimed primarily at the nostalgia and local studies market, but when brought together in a series or collection they can provide a library with a useful (and relatively inexpensive) collection of historical photographs. This particular volume has a fairly general interest, ranging from trains and buses to horse‐drawn vehicles, trams and commercial wheeled vehicles of many and varied types.

The quality of reproduction is good, to a generous page size (which takes a number of the illustrations up to about the maximum enlargement they can achieve before becoming indistinct), and the captions carry an amount of useful detail. So, this is another useful collection of mainly postcards, with a few other photographs, of potential interest for transport history as well as the history of Edinburgh.
