To those of us not initiated into its mysteries, IFLA seems to be a body whose complexities make the labyrinths of the EU and the Kremlin seem straightforward. Yet, it is most definitely one of those organizations which, if it did not exist would need to be invented. Now, following some time on the Organizing Committee for their 2002 conference (coming to Glasgow) and attendance at my first IFLA Conference (in Boston 2001), not to mention having published over the years a few papers in Library Review emanating from previous IFLA conferences, the veil is lifted slightly.
