Clive Bell, English art critic, wrote of the modern movement in art that “the prime characteristic of the new movement is its derivation from Cézanne”. Cézanne is generally regarded as the founding father of modernism and along with Gauguin and van Gogh, the greatest of the Post‐Impressionist artists. His influence has been acclaimed by artists from Picasso and Matisse to Klee and Kandinsky.
