Augustine’s influence on philosophy and theology is substantial and unique. His wide‐ranging ideas provide an insight into thinkers of his time (ad 354‐430) and before, and help to shape many key thinkers (like Grotius on just war, Malebranche on God, Leibniz on moral evil, and Wittgenstein). Stump is a professor of philosophy at St Louis University (Kretzmann sadly died in 1998) and she has gathered together some 20 scholars, mainly American, in order to take a new look at Augustine.
