This encyclopedia is one of that increasingly rare breed, a one‐person compilation. To have compiled a reference source featuring more than 400 people from 64 countries, a large number of them poorly documented, and having the nerve to exclude many of the better‐known, “safer” names, free‐lance writer and editor Helen Rappaport merits applause.
