The Balkans

These two volumes, published in the “New York Times: 20th Century in review” series form an overview of the Balkan States between 1875‐2000. Articles from the New York Times are brought together to form a picture of the complicated history of this notoriously unstable area of Europe. The coverage includes Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and all the states of the former Yugoslavia. The history of any one Balkan State cannot be narrated in isolation – the region is all but defined by cultural, political and linguistic interaction.
