There are innumerable small books on home medication. The oldest on my shelves at home is currently Buchanan’s Domestic Medicine (Buchanan, 1824) but there are plenty older than that around. This must be one of the oldest forms of popular publication, second only to the epic poem. Unfortunately as medicine has got more complex (as well as more effective) the bulk of information has reached the stage where this simple form is no longer really practicable.
