Keith Laybourn, Professor of History at the University of Huddersfield, UK, is a prolific and respected writer on modern UK history and politics. Among his more recent monograph offerings are The Rise of Socialism in Britain (Laybourn, 1997), Modern Britain 1906‐1990: A Reader (Laybourn, 1999), A Century of Labour: A History of the Labour Party 1900‐2000 (Laybourn, 2001a) and, in the reference field, British Political Leaders: A Biographical Dictionary (Laybourn, 2001b).
