The Bayeux Tapestry is particularly valuable for its representation of the costume, arms and manners of the Normans before the Norman Conquest. It gives more details of the Conquest and the Battle of Hastings than the contemporary literature. Surviving from the eleventh‐century, it is 231ft (70m) long by 19.5in (49.5cm) wide. This digital edition displays the entire tapestry in 40 scenes comprising 173 panels, the last of which has undergone extensive restoration. The opening screen shows about seven feet of the tapestry that the scholar can scroll forward or backward and magnify up to the actual size of the weave....
