This medical dictionary is intended for home use. According to the front cover it includes “more than 8000 entries, fully cross‐referenced”. It has been compiled by “the doctors and experts at MedicineNet.com”, a US‐based Web site. Consequently, the majority of the terminology, institutions and drug brand names are American.
The approach taken for this review has been to look up definitions of a small selection of common or topical medical terms. Coverage of these terms was then assessed, as was the cross‐referencing.
