The Oxford Style Manual

Well into the electronic age the Oxford Dictionary for Writers and Editors was one of my most trusted companions, one of those handy books that always seemed to answer the odd or arcane query: when to italicise and what; what abbreviations to use, or not; how to spell words which can still catch out even the most experienced; the meanings of foreign words and expressions (so whether or not they have been used correctly or appropriately), and so much more. It was always a surprisingly compendious little paperback and seemed to pack as much practical information as prestigious style manuals...
