As the subtitle of this book might suggest, cognitive science is an inherently interdisciplinary enterprise. Broadly speaking it can be defined as the area where psychology, computer science and linguistics meet, given a scientific base by neuroimaging and illuminated by philosophy. Although it has produced numerous textbooks, several journals and a couple of encyclopaedias, it is still true that, from a reference library point of view, most people interested in the subject will come from one of these disciplines and will be best served by standard reference books in those disciplines.
