An awful lot of work has gone into compiling this book. An editor‐in‐chief assisted by 21 expert editorial advisors selected approximately 300 specialists to compile very short biographies of just under 600 anthropologists, covering the whole history of the discipline. Entries vary between 400 and 800 words, giving dates and places of birth and death, education, a highly compressed account of what is, after all, a lifetime's work, and bibliographic details of two to four key publications.
