I have recently had, and continue to have, occasion to use an atlas quite extensively and in some detail. One of my questions is answered immediately in gazetteer in this volume: names in Greenland changed from the unfamiliar to the unpronounceable in 1997. I am perfectly happy with the basic premise, to adopt Inuit names – indeed it is a trend I applaud – to change from European to Inuit forms. But in practice, changing Godthab to Nuuk is one thing, but Scoresbysund to Ittoqqortoormiitt another (especially when you are trying to decipher the geographical implications of Air Greenland's timetable)....
