This clearly written and well‐researched text is appropriate both for the specialist (such as a student following a diploma or undergraduate degree in counselling) and for the non‐specialist. The work constitutes the “practical dictionary” it claims to be, and does not suffer from either over‐elaborate or unwieldy definition. It attempts to encompass the nature and style of a profession which is in fairly rapid evolution, and succeeds in incorporating perspectives from a wide range of epistemological, theoretical and practitioner positions.
