Environmental Media Services (EMS) is a non‐profit advocacy service with a mission to “expand media coverage of critical environmental and public health issues”. Arlie Schardt, a former newsmagazine journalist and well‐known leader of environmental activist groups, is the founder of this influential Washington DC based service. Journalists are EMS's primary target audience, feeding them with daily press releases from participating organizations. In many ways, EMS serves as a public relations facilitator working with its “partners” to spread the word about environmental causes and issues.
