Librarianship and Information Science in the Islamic World, 1966‐1999: An Annotated Bibliography

Mention library and information science in the Islamic World to many librarians in Western countries and the immediate image that will spring to mind is smoke billowing from the National Library of Iraq following its looting in April 2003. Fewer will think of the stunning disc‐shaped architecture of the new Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt, inaugurated in 2002 as a modern day successor to the pre‐Islamic Royal Library of Alexandria.
