Following the usual Blackwell Companions to Cultural Studies series' format, Janet Wasko's book comprises a collection of original essays that have the objective of providing a history of the subject from its inception to the present day. The year 2005 is probably the last opportunity for this objective to be achievable in a single volume, as the breadth, depth and international nature of television is developing so rapidly. The technical possibilities allowed by digital developments alone could fill the pages of a single book.
