The Greenwood Dictionary of World History

Worldwide in range, extending from prehistory to the present day, and broadly relating to historically significant people, places, events and concepts, over 2,000 entries are included, two columns to the page, in this latest Greenwood dictionary. Guided by the recommendations and standards of various relevant American educational bodies such as the National Center for History in Schools, and by many state standards for history education, the entries are necessarily brief and designed to provide basic historical facts rather than wide‐ranging encyclopedic information. For once, the distinction between a dictionary and an encyclopedia is plain for all to see.
