An Edith Wharton Chronology

Following years of relative critical obscurity, the New York born writer Edith Newbold Wharton née Jones (1862‐1937) has come back into the limelight. Born into an extremely wealthy family, Edith had the luxury of travelling to Europe with her husband, the wealthy older Edward Robbins “Teddy” Wharton (1850‐1928) whom she married in April 1885. Following his final mental collapse in 1911 and the discovery that he kept at least one mistress, and legal complications, in 1913 they obtained a divorce.
