In the early 1980s, Renate and Fritz Gruber published Das imaginäre Photo‐Museum, translated into the English as The Imaginary Photo Museum (Gruber and Gruber, 1982) and published as such in both the UK and USA. The British edition was published as a large format paperback and contained over 400 photographs, with accompanying text by Helmut Gernsheim, each one a classic of its type and the whole comprising the best collection of the world's artistic photography.
