I normally do most of my review reading on a commuter train, alighting at Denmark Hill station. This is the nearest railway station to two major world‐renowned hospitals – Kings College Hospital, and the Maudsley. It is one of London's oldest passenger railway stations, much of it still in its Victorian design, situated in a deep cutting with 38 steep stone steps up to street level, and no lift.
