The first point to note about this latest lavish Oxford University Press Companion is that it is not, as might easily be assumed, a revised or updated edition of the 1986 title The Oxford Companion to Gardens. While the roots of this new book may go back 20 years, what is offered here is an almost complete reworking of the earlier Companion.
