“Chambers Dictionary of Music was previously published at The Hutchinson Concise Dictionary of Music, which in turn was abridged from the acclaimed single‐volume Hutchinson Encyclopedia of Music”. I quote from the introduction. The 6,500 entries include technical terms used in scores, forms, composers, librettists, titles and conductors, but no singers or other performers, unless they were also composers, nor any concert halls or theatres. There are musical examples illustrating Alberti bass, cadences, octatonic scale and other terms.
