A federal grant from Save America's Treasures and additional funds provided by The Commonwealth of Massachusetts provided the means to preserve these Jefferson manuscripts. The Massachusetts Historical Society, through donations made by generations of Thomas Jefferson's descendants, has the second largest collection of his papers in the world and the single largest collection of his private papers. The Library of Congress has a larger collection of Jefferson papers, focusing primarily on his public papers.
