African American Pioneers of Baseball: A Biographical Encyclopedia

In recent years a number of works about players in the Negro Leagues have appeared. Many have been oral histories or works about individual players or teams. There have been others that have been biographical encyclopedias in nature such as the comprehensive The Biographical Encyclopedia of the Negro Baseball Leagues (Riley, 1994). Lew Freedman has taken a slightly different tact with this work.
