Derek Hayes' newest work, the Historical Atlas of California with Original Maps is a fine follow‐up to his well‐received previous works such as the Historical Atlas of the United States (Hayes, 2007) and the Historical Atlas of the Pacific Northwest (Hayes, 1999). In this latest work, he chronicles more than 400 years of Golden State history, presenting readers with a rich visual narrative.
