At a time when maps of almost anywhere in the world can be retrieved online from the likes of Multimap (www.multimap.com), where we can peer down on much of the globe through eyes of Google Earth (http://earth.google.com) or where satellite navigation will steer us to our destination, is there still a reference role for printed maps and atlases? More specifically, is there still a role for the grand global atlas?
