The full title of this encyclopaedia gives a clue to its dual nature: the bulk of the three volumes is essentially a fairly standard encyclopaedia of world mythology and folklore; but the whole work is intended as a resource for storytellers and is targeted to that audience.
The encyclopaedia consists of several sections: an introductory essay, the main encyclopaedic entries, about 150 pages of retellings of stories from around the world, a list of festivals and college courses for storytellers, and a bibliography of resources on storytelling, folklore, and guides to stories by topic and motif.
