The website The Encyclopedia of Earth (EoE) presents itself as a comprehensive reference about the earth, earth's natural environments and their interaction with society. The articles are written by scholars, educators, and professionals, and are written in non‐technical language so as to be useful to a variety of users. The body behind this encyclopaedia is the Environmental Information Coalition (EIC). The EIC defines the editorial boundaries of The Encyclopedia of Earth and is governed by its own set of bylaws. Two Brown University departments also provide editorial support to The Encyclopedia of Earth.
